An empathy-based approach
I use contextual inquiry to learn about the problems that users experience in their workflows. Often users are unaware of the difficulties they overcome in their daily routines, having learned to adapt to workarounds and unfriendly user interfaces. With fresh eyes, I study how users operate and identify patterns of behavior that indicate latent needs. Synthesizing information gathered from interviews and observation, I discover insights that form the basis of design criteria. I then build out design recommendations, working with users to iterate upon solutions that best address their needs.
I believe in participatory design,
working with users to identify solutions to problems and leveraging their expertise to understand and improve user experience.
I believe in agency,
ensuring that design solutions are transparent and that users understand and control their experiences.
I believe in inclusion,
designing for all users and paying special attention to edge cases and those with special needs.
I believe in sustainability,
creating design solutions that support minimal footprints and reusable and recyclable production.
